Modern watercolor painting on hanging scroll The cormorant immerged in infinity
This modern watercolor painting is a Japanese brush painting made with sumi and indigo blue pigment. The artist has chosen a concise pictorial language and a reduced color palette to render the subject with the highest expressiveness. The cormorant immerged in infinity is an image born from the artist's heart. Strolling along the coast of the Majorcan island, she often met this solitary cormorant standing on a rock, drying his wings in the sun, looking at the infinite blue of the Mediterranean summer sky. To create this scenery she depicted the cormorant and the rock in very few brushstrokes and bluish gray tones, avoiding any possible distraction of form or color. This modern watercolor painting features the strength of the brushstroke of Japanese calligraphy in its freehand brushwork.
This modern watercolor painting is mounted with cream-colored silk, which harmonizes perfectly with the bluish gray tones of the sumi painting. The hanging scroll has a natural wooden roller at the bottom.
Size of this modern watercolor painting: 54.7" x 27.5"; 139 x 70 cm
Mounting size of the entire hanging scroll: 95.6" x 34.4"; 243 x 87 cm
