This calligraphy shows a fragment of the Heart Sutra or Prajnaparamita Hridaya Sutra:
In English it says :
Form is not different from emptiness
Emptiness is not different from form;
Form is emptiness,
Emptiness is form.
Japanese:
色 不 異 空 – shiki fu i kū
空 不 異 色 – kū fu i shiki
色 即 是 空 – shiki soku ze kū
空 即 是 色 – kū soku ze shiki
I created a vivid image for this Great Wisdom. In the middle stands HANNYA, wisdom, in bold brushstrokes. The other characters in vivid abbreviated lines are like clouds appearing and disappearing in the infinite sky, recalling the impermanent nature of everything.
