In this Zen painting and calligraphy I added a humorous touch to the Zen saying
“Pointing Directly To The Human Mind; Seeing Into One’s Nature Becoming Buddha.”
A fiery yogini is seeing into the mind and a Buddhist monk is blowing the conch shell; ignorance defeated!

Becoming Buddha in

Both sentences are two out of four, which boldly describe the Zen way of teaching the Dharma:
A special transmission outside the scriptures,
No dependence upon words and letters,
Pointing directly to the human mind,
Seeing into one’s nature, becoming Buddha.
They are attributed to the Zen patriarch Bodhidharma, the Indian monk who went to China to teach Zen. It is said that upon his arrival in China he made that unmistakable statement about the Zen way of teaching the Dharma. From that point on Buddhism in China would never be the same and the Zen teaching of Bodhidharma would flourish later abundantly, especially under the sixth Zen patriarch Hui-neng.
