From the Back Cover
The Dance of the Zen Brush presents a selection of fifty-four Zen calligraphies and paintings, brushed and painted by contemporary artist Nadja Van Ghelue, who has dedicated most of her artistic activity to the study and visual rendering of the Zen teachings.
In this beautiful full-color Zen art book, the artist takes the viewer on a spiritual journey through her own Zen calligraphy and painting. The images along with short inspiring titles and concise, inspiring phrases introduce the viewer to a specific tenet of Zen Buddhism. Each detail page of the artwork also provides the corresponding Japanese/Chinese characters and the translation.
The spiritual journey through Zen calligraphy begins with the Heart Sutra, explores Prajnaparamita and her teachings, including the Diamond sutra. The path leads to Buddha Shakyamuni, to the Zen Patriarch Bodhidharma, the Sixth Zen Patriarch Huineng and his teaching of the Platform Sutra, and ends with the Bodhisattva Vimalakirti. On this visual journey you will also encounter poetic moments, stumble into spiritual riddles, and be refreshed with a cup of tea.
The artist invites the reader to fuse with these moments of creativity, intuition and meditation and to walk the Path that unfolds in this artful Zen Brush book.
